The people that work at the alterations place I frequent probably think I'm completely nuts. I'm always bringing in armfuls of crazy looking floor-length dresses and dowdy thrift store skirts to be made short short short. I really need to learn how to sew, I'd probably save myself hundreds of dollars pretty quickly. Oh well... I'm happy that I had this beauty of a skirt hemmed because now it's absolutely perfect and ready for all kinds of Fall adventures!

Sometimes the best days are the ones spent wandering aimlessly, goofing around in grocery stores and taking silly photos with a point-and-shoot camera. I'm lucky to have Lauren as my partner in crime for many of these adventures. A lady at a thrift store we poked around in told us that we were "such adorable friends." Well gee, thanks stranger lady!

burger head

shirt  h&m

When I saw this burger hair tie at a dollar store in the Mission I think I squealed really loudly. I've always found it a shame that there aren't more burger-themed accessories. Perhaps someday I will fill that void. Fancy Fine burger necklaces, anyone? Want want want!

sneak

A little sneak peek of the shoot Francesca and I did with Lisa Wiseman yesterday. We shot in my bedroom which was swelteringly hot, but it was so much fun. Picture piles of lacey, silky dresses everywhere and Donut the Cat plopped right in the middle of it, staring at all the action. Very excited to show you the rest of the photos!

What was that? You want more Pika Pika photos? Done. It must seem like all we ever do is sit in photo booths being crazy, which is partly true. But sometimes we brush our teeth and fill our bellies with food and pay bills. But you can't decorate those activities with hearts and bats and weird hat drawings.

P.S. I made a Facebook fan page for Fancy Fine!

matchy

Finally we get our San Francisco Summer weather! I wasn't trying to be patriotic when I put this outfit together, but voila. I have a lot of navy blues, reds and whites in my wardrobe, so it's impossible for me to not skew a bit "4th of July" sometimes without realizing it. I've had this amazing Built By Wendy dress for a few years and every time the weather is sunny I'm so happy to pull it out again. Pool party here I come!

donut the cat

I promised I would introduce you to my cat and here she is! Meet Donut, also known as The Bean. If you're anything like me you can never get enough of cute cat (and dog!) photos. And fortunately for me, Donut is quite the photogenic little bud. These are some of my favorite shots I've taken of her over the past few years, narrowed down from about a trillion photos. I'm sure she will be making regular appearances from now on.

I'm excited to have a few photo shoots lined up for the next few weeks with a few of my favorite lady photographers (Lisa and Cecilia). The lovely Francesca will be my posing buddy in the first shoot, which is partly an excuse for us to get way dolled up in our finer dresses. Fancy fine indeed! I feel so lucky to know such awesomely talented gals who are willing to let me play dress up and create images with them. I'm looking forward to sharing the results with you very soon!

how very clever

Remember the dream outfit I made for that Clever Nettle contest earlier in the month? Well, I couldn't help but spend the gift certificate I won on the very things I used in that outfit. So let me introduce you to my new favorite skirt and purse, both courtesy of Anja's impeccable eye for loveliness (and Erin of CaliVintage for choosing my creation!). That last photo pretty much sums up how excited I was to receive that package in the mail. Now if I only I could get my hands on that Rachel Comey blouse...

lovely shoes for sale

photos by Cecilia Austin

I recently purchased these amazing forest green 60's pumps online, only to find that they are  much too small. So sad! I love them so much but I'm hoping that some bow-loving lady out there will want to make them her own. I'm selling them for $40 including shipping ($48 to international gals). They are Naturalizer brand circa the early 60's (my guess), and they could not be any cuter with their giant satin bow and mid-height heel. They are also deadstock, which means they've never been worn. The size is marked a 10 AAA (very narrow!) but I think a size 9 would fit more comfortably in them. So narrow-footed gals, it might be your lucky day! Here are the exact measurements...

Length (heel to toe from inside) = 10.5"
Width (inside at widest part) = 3"
Heel Width (inside) = 2.25"
Heel = 2"

If you'd like to make these pretties your own just send me an email at hi@ashleyording.com and I will give you payment instructions via Paypal.

best girl

photos by Cecilia Austin

An impromptu photo shoot with my favorite lady Lauren, shot by one of my favorite photographers, Cecilia Austin. We had just finished a whirlwind tour of the Vintage Fashion Expo where I purchased a beautiful pink satin skirt from the 50's and a sweet little nautical-themed stripe sweater. I also met the adorable Erin of CaliVintage, but sadly I had to scoot off to work before we could chat much. Fortunately I was able to go back this morning and have a more leisurely stroll through the entire expo. Oh, and spend the rest of my money and then some! I left with two amazing purses (one bright yellow and one metallic gold), an amazing white lace beaded jacket (which you will have to see in order to comprehend it's amazingness), a pink crepe 40's dress, and the most beautiful little nightgown that looks like it's from the 20's because it's so delicate. Whew. I left behind so many lovely things, too... like a little pale blue 60's raincoat and a navy straw hat adorned with tiny fruits. Oh well, I shall show you my new goodies very soon!
